Duckworth Tours Southern Illinois Healthcare Cancer Institute and Highlights Importance of Expanding Rural Healthcare Access

[CARTERVILLE, IL] – U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth today toured Southern Illinois Healthcare (SIH) System’s Cancer Institute with SIH President and CEO Rex Buddle as well as other SIH leaders. Duckworth and the SIH leaders also discussed her legislative priorities, including expanding healthcare access in rural communities, during her visit. Photos from today’s meeting and tour are available here.

“Every Illinoisan, no matter their zip code, deserves the same access to quality health services,” Duckworth said. “I will keep working with organizations like Southern Illinois Healthcare System to make sure they have the federal support they need to continue to provide high quality care to families across Southern Illinois.”

Duckworth has been a champion for increasing access to healthcare access and coverage for Americans, cosponsoring the Resident Physician Shortage Reduction Act and legislation to increase funding for community health centers. Duckworth has also supported legislation to expand healthcare coverage for breast cancer patients and survivors, protect seniors and Americans with pre-existing conditions and increase access to Medicare.
