Duckworth, Durbin Announce More Than $2.3 Million To Support Hispanic-Serving Institutions

 

[CHICAGO, IL] – U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) and U.S. Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL) today announced $2,388,667 for Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSI) through the U.S. Department of Education’s (ED) Developing Hispanic-Serving Institutions Program to assist HSIs to expand educational opportunities and support for Hispanic students.

“Illinois’s future becomes brighter when all communities can access opportunities for higher education,” said Duckworth. “I’m proud to help announce this funding for Illinois’s Hispanic-Serving Institutions to continue their work of educating Illinois’s next generation of leaders.”

“In Illinois, HSIs play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our diverse communities,” said Durbin. “By investing in these institutions, we are opening doors, breaking down barriers, and building a brighter, more inclusive future for our state and the entire nation.”

The following HSIs were awarded funding:

  • William Rainey Harper College: $599,626.00
  • Harry S Truman College: $589,698.00
  • Northeastern Illinois University: $599,998.00
  • University of St. Francis: $599,345.00

This funding will also provide Hispanic students with tutoring, language support, career readiness, and professional development programming.
