TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — US Senator Tammy Duckworth is visiting Taiwan from Wednesday to Thursday, marking her fourth trip to the country while in office, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Duckworth will meet with President Lai Ching-te (???), Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim (???), and Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung (???), per MOFA. Discussions will cover foreign affairs, defense, economic and trade policy, as well as the security situation in the Taiwan Strait and the broader region.

The ministry described Duckworth as a strong supporter of Taiwan and a member of the US Senate Taiwan Caucus. She has consistently backed pro-Taiwan legislation and co-signed numerous bipartisan letters advocating for the country

During Taiwan’s COVID vaccine shortage, she joined a bipartisan group of senators aboard a US military aircraft to announce a vaccine donation. She also visited shortly after Lai and Hsiao assumed office last year, demonstrating her continued support for Taiwan’s democracy.

The ministry noted that Duckworth's visit on the first anniversary of Taiwan’s new administration holds particular significance. “It once again demonstrates the concrete support of the US Congress for the people of Taiwan, especially at a time when China continues to provoke and disrupt the peace and stability of the Taiwan Strait with gray-zone tactics,” said MOFA.

Lin expressed gratitude for the visits by US senators and representatives this week, which he said reflect unwavering bipartisan backing for Taiwan in Congress. He said Taiwan will continue working with Congress and the White House to strengthen bilateral ties and promote peace and stability in the region.
