Duckworth Grills Drug Company Executives Who Put Profit and Greed Above American Lives
[WASHINGTON, DC] – Congresswoman Tammy Duckworth (IL-08) today questioned several pharmaceutical executives over their companies’ decisions to rapidly and needlessly raise prices—sometimes by as much as 5,000% overnight—on life-saving medications that they did not develop, but instead recently purchased. The new prices appeared to be motivated by the potential profit that could be made, despite the fact that the increased prices made it nearly impossible for patients to afford life-saving medications that previously were widely available and affordable before their acquisition by companies like Turing and Valeant.
