Duckworth Votes to Confirm Buttigieg as Transportation Secretary

[WASHINGTON, D.C.] — U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL), the senior-most Democratic Member on the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation (CST) Subcommittee on Transportation and Safety, released the following statement after voting to confirm Pete Buttigieg as Transportation Secretary under President Joe Biden. Buttigieg was confirmed with an 86-13 vote today.

“After serving our nation in uniform and leading his local community, Secretary Buttigieg is now answering the call to help lead the Biden Administration’s effort to rebuild our country. I am confident he will be an effective advocate for the major infrastructure package that we desperately need and that he is committed to making sure our transportation infrastructure is accessible to all Americans, particularly travelers with disabilities. His confirmation is historic, and I look forward to working with him to help create good-paying jobs in Illinois and across the country while prioritizing equity, efficiency and sustainability in the effort to strengthen our nation’s infrastructure.”

Duckworth met virtually with Buttigieg earlier this month to discuss their shared priorities, such as investing in our nation’s infrastructure and transportation workers, creating good-paying jobs, reducing traffic congestion and boosting transit accessibility. At his confirmation hearing last week, Duckworth also secured Buttigieg’s commitment to prioritize local job creation and make transportation accessible for all.
