Duckworth Votes to Confirm Blinken as Secretary of State

 

[WASHINGTON, D.C.] — Combat Veteran and U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL), a member of the U.S. Senate Armed Services Committee (SASC) who served in the Reserve Forces for 23 years, released the following statement after voting to confirm Tony Blinken as Secretary of State. Blinken was confirmed by a 78-22 vote to serve as Secretary of State under President Biden.

“Tony Blinken is an experienced, crisis-tested leader who will be an excellent Secretary of State, and I was proud to vote to confirm him. There’s so much work to do to repair critical relationships with our allies, stand up to our adversaries and restore America’s global leadership. As Secretary of State, Tony Blinken can get the job done and take on the challenges of our time, like safeguarding democracy, rebuilding our institutions and tackling the climate crisis.”
