Duckworth Tours Chicago Rockford International Airport, Underscores Importance to Local Economy

[ROCKFORD, IL] -U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) toured the Chicago Rockford International Airport (RFD) that is currently being renovated and met with RFD Executive Director Mike Dunn this week. A photo of the Duckworth and Dunn is available here.

"This airport and its renovations are the economic engine for the Rockford region," Duckworth said. "I am committed to supporting RFD with federal grants and resources so that it can continue to provide good-paying jobs to hardworking Illinoisans, which is particularly important given that the State of Illinois has yet to release funding dedicated to airport improvements."

"We're proud to host Senator Duckworth today to show and share with her the impact RFD is having in our region as it relates to economic development," RFD Executive Director Mike Dunn said. "Her interest in our community and the ongoing growth and attention to modern manufacturing will continue to provide positive repercussions for years to come."

In August, Senators Duckworth and Durbin (D-IL) along with Congresswoman Cheri Bustos (IL-17) announced more than $8 million in federal grants for the Chicago Rockford International Airport.

RFD provides both cargo and passenger services. There are currently two airlines, Allegiant Air and Apple Vacations, at RFD that travel to eight non-stop destinations including Cancun, Ft. Myers, Jamaica, Las Vegas, Orlando, Phoenix, Punta Cana and Tampa Bay.
