Duckworth Statement on Senate Vote on No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act

[WASHINGTON, D.C.] – After voting against S. 109, which would restrict the ability of women to afford legal and constitutionally-protected abortions and expand the Hyde Amendment, U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) released the following statement:

“It’s ridiculous that instead of allowing the Senate to vote to re-open the government and end this irresponsible and unnecessary government shutdown, Republican leadership is choosing to waste the Senate’s time on a bill that has no chance of passing the House of Representatives or becoming law. This bill would have put the government between women and their doctors and prevented low-income women from getting the help they need even if their health is at risk. Now that it has failed, I urge Mitch McConnell to finally let us vote to re-open government, instead of enabling Donald Trump as he holds hundreds of thousands of federal workers’ paychecks hostage.”
