Duckworth Meets with Will County and Waukegan Officials, Highlights Local Wins in American Rescue Plan

[WASHINGTON, DC] — U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) held virtual meetings with newly-elected Waukegan Mayor Ann Taylor and several Will County officials to discuss transportation, infrastructure, housing and efforts to strengthen their local economies. These meetings come after Duckworth helped secure more than $19 million in federal funding to Waukegan and more than $134 million in federal funding to Will County as a result of President Biden’s American Rescue Plan, a critical relief plan for millions of Americans.

“We know our local governments have been hurting – which is why I’m pleased Waukegan and Will County will receive a total of more than $153 million in funding as a result of Democrats passing President Biden’s American Rescue Plan,” Duckworth said. “In every round of COVID relief funding, I’ve called for more direct funding and more flexible uses for funding for local government – and with these investments, localities will be able to support COVID-19 response efforts, strengthen support for public services and help retain jobs, support small businesses and address systemic public health and economic challenges.”

Since the passing of the American Rescue Plan (ARP), Senator Duckworth and U.S. Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL) have announced several ARP awards to communities throughout Illinois, including $7,325,365 from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to Illinois to support education efforts about the COVID-19 vaccine and vaccination availability. The CDC also allocated an additional $1.977 million dollars for Chicago to boost current vaccination efforts. The Senators also announced that 45 Community Health Centers (CHCs) throughout Illinois will receive a total of $270 million in ARP funding to support COVID-19 vaccination and health services for vulnerable populations in urban and rural parts of the state.
