Duckworth, Durbin Meet with President Of Loyola University Chicago

 

[WASHINGTON D.C.] – U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) and U.S. Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL) today met with Dr. Mark Reed, President of Loyola University Chicago, to discuss funding for educational institutions in Illinois.

The Senators and Dr. Reed also spoke about Loyola University Chicago’s efforts to serve low-income students and students of color and boosting federal funds for Pell Grants to mitigate financial barriers for those seeking an education. Durbin expressed his support for doubling the maximum Pell Grant award to $13,790.

“It was a pleasure to meet with Dr. Reed today and learn more about his priorities for Loyola University Chicago,” Duckworth said. I’ll keep working with Senator Durbin to help ensure Loyola and our Illinois higher education institutions have the support they need from the federal level to support our students.”

“Illinois is home to well-respected and renowned institutions of higher education like Loyola University Chicago.  Today, I spoke with the University’s new president, Dr. Mark Reed, about how to best support the next generation of students and use the University’s research capabilities to the fullest,” said Durbin.  “I’ll continue to be a strong federal advocate for Illinois’ universities and students.”
