Duckworth Applauds Supreme Court Decision to Uphold the Affordable Care Act

[WASHINGTON, DC] – U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) issued the following statement after the Supreme Court’s 7-2 decision to uphold the Affordable Care Act (ACA):

“Despite more than a decade of relentless attacks from Republicans aimed at ripping healthcare away from millions of Americans, today’s resounding Supreme Court decision reaffirms—for the third time by the nation’s highest court—that the Affordable Care Act is the law of the land.

“This is a great day for the 31 million Americans who rely on the Obama-Biden Administration’s landmark health coverage law, for 133 million people who—like me—have pre-existing conditions and for the millions of uninsured people who have access to high-quality, affordable coverage because of the Affordable Care Act.

“I am hopeful that after a decade of harmful efforts to rip care away from millions and three losses in the Supreme Court, Republicans might finally be willing to work with Democrats to strengthen healthcare in this country and make sure even more hardworking people across the country can get covered. And I hope that anyone who wants health coverage during this pandemic takes advantage of the Special Enrollment Period that President Biden created to find an expanded, low-cost plan that’s right for them before the August 15th deadline.”
