As Trump Escalates Abuse of Our Military, Duckworth Announces She Will Oppose NDAA for First Time

[WASHINGTON, D.C.] – Citing her deep concern over Donald Trump abusing our military and servicemembers by unconstitutionally deploying them into American cities—including Chicago—to intimidate Americans over the objections of state and local officials, combat Veteran and U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) announced she will vote against the Fiscal Year 2026 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for the first time in her career. Duckworth has supported every NDAA since she was first elected to Congress in 2012.

“Every year, I look forward to working in a bipartisan way to forge policy that supports our military and our national security—but ultimately, this NDAA would authorize DoD funding that’s been misused to deploy our troops into American cities,” said Duckworth. “It is because I love our military so much and respect our troops so deeply that I must vote against this authority. I refuse to allow a wannabe tinpot dictator to use the authorities or money Congress allocates to our Armed Forces in his un-American campaign to abuse our servicemembers as his political props and intimidate Americans in their own communities rather than defend against our adversaries.”
