Senator Duckworth Meets with Chicago Cubs Board Member & Deputy Commerce Secretary Nominee Todd Ricketts

WASHINGTON, DC - U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) today met with Todd Ricketts, a member of the Board of Directors of the Chicago Cubs and the President's nominee to be Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Department of Commerce. As a member of the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, Senator Duckworth will participate in Mr. Ricketts' confirmation hearing, which has not yet been scheduled. B-Roll and a photograph of today's meeting are available here.

"Mr. Ricketts and I had a good conversation today about how he can help the Commerce Department support Illinois's small businesses and create good-paying jobs," said Senator Duckworth. "His family knows as well as any the kind of investments that were needed to turn the Cubs into World Series champions. Mr. Ricketts should recognize that Illinois's economy and our nation's economy need similarly large-scale investments to ensure the economic growth President Obama's administration helped launch continues.

"If he is confirmed, I am confident we can work together to support Illinois's agricultural exports, enhance the Illinois Manufacturing Excellence Center and strengthen programs that help minority-owned businesses grow. As with many of this President's nominees, the American people deserve a full and transparent accounting of how Mr. Ricketts will eliminate any potential conflicts of interest and I look forward to hearing him address those and other issues more thoroughly during his confirmation hearing before the Senate Commerce Committee."
