Duckworth Announces Commerce Subcommittee Assignments

WASHINGTON, DC - Today, U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) announced she will serve on the following four subcommittees in the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee. The assignments will help Duckworth advocate for Illinois's economic priorities like infrastructure investments that support good-paying jobs, and provide her with oversight responsibilities that range from consumer protection to the safety and security of America's transportation network to professional sports leagues. Her subcommittees also have jurisdiction and oversight responsibilities over a number of agencies including the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB).

"I am eager to work with members on both sides of the aisle to help Illinois families with common-sense policies that grow manufacturing jobs, rebuild our crumbling infrastructure, and improve our nation's transportation system," said Senator Duckworth. "Whether it's helping protect consumers from deceptive business practices and fraud, increasing access to quality, affordable internet and telephone plans, or working to rebuild our nation's rails, roads, bridges, waterways, and airports, I look forward to being a strong voice for the hardworking people of Illinois."

Senator Duckworth successfully secured assignments on subcommittees that will enable the Senator to effectively represent Illinois, home to the busiest freight rail hub in the nation and one of the world's busiest airports:

  • Aviation Operations, Safety and Security,
  • Communications, Technology, Innovation, and the Internet,
  • Consumer Protection, Product Safety, Insurance and Data Security,
  • Surface Transportation and Merchant Marine Infrastructure, Safety and Security
