Duckworth Votes to Confirm Garland as Attorney General

[WASHINGTON, D.C.] — U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) released the following statement after voting to confirm Illinois native Merrick Garland as Attorney General of the United States. Garland was confirmed by a 70-30 vote to serve as Attorney General under President Biden. Senator Duckworth introduced Attorney General Garland at his confirmation hearing on February 22, 2021.

“Merrick Garland is a man with impeccable credentials and, as Attorney General, I trust that he will restore the integrity and independence our nation’s Department of Justice had been so strikingly drained of during the Trump Administration. After four years of politicization and weaponization of the DOJ by the Trump Administration, it’s incredibly important that Attorney General Garland build back trust in our Justice Department, boost the morale of the dedicated career professionals and prioritize a more equitable justice system that serves all Americans, regardless of zip code, wallet or skin color.”
